So...the software that this blog is created on is B2Evolution.
It's open source, free and have been around for a good long time.

Up until now, upgrading has been a somewhat manual process of downloading the source and replacing the entire websites code with the new stuff then editing some code to point it to the database and also editing the code you have made configuration changes to.

Now there is an experimental feature that you can upgrade the code from inside the back office log in without the need to muck around in the SQL or the codebase.
It worked like a a charm.
